# Lyfie > Lyfie makes free, open-source software: Papyra, a self-hosted notes app, and Luthor, a rich-text editor for React. No paywalls, no trackers, no lock-in. Lyfie (https://www.lyfie.org) is an open-source organisation founded by Rahul NS Anand (https://www.rahulnsanand.com, GitHub https://github.com/rahulnsanand). Motto: “Free, open software that outpaces the horizon.” Everything it makes is free: no paid tier, no licence keys, no telemetry, no lock-in, and self-hosted wherever it can be. All work happens in public at https://github.com/lyfie-org. ## Projects - [Papyra](https://www.lyfie.org/projects/papyra.md): A calm, self-hosted home for your notes. GPL-3.0. Stable. Site: https://papyra.app. - [Luthor](https://www.lyfie.org/projects/luthor.md): A TypeScript-first rich-text editor for React, built on Lexical. MIT. Stable. Site: https://www.luthor.fyi. - Rokada: A private, self-hosted finance app. Your money, on your machine. In development. --- ## Papyra > A calm, self-hosted home for your notes. Source page: https://www.lyfie.org/projects/papyra/ Made by Lyfie (https://www.lyfie.org), the open-source organisation founded by Rahul NS Anand. - Type: app - Status: Stable - Licence: GPL-3.0 (free and open source) - Website: https://papyra.app - Documentation: https://papyra.app/docs/ - Source code: https://github.com/lyfie-org/papyra - Highlights: Plain Markdown, Self-hosted, Live collaboration, No telemetry ### Get started ```bash curl -O https://raw.githubusercontent.com/lyfie-org/papyra/main/docker-compose.hub.yml docker compose -f docker-compose.hub.yml up -d ``` Papyra is a note-taking app you run yourself. It is as easy as sticky notes and as deep as a wiki: search, links and backlinks, version history, live collaboration, comments, locked notes and offline editing. Every note stays an ordinary Markdown file in a folder you own. ### Your folder is the storage There is no database to export from. Open the folder in Obsidian, sync it with Syncthing, back it up with `rsync` or edit a file by hand — Papyra watches the folder and picks up whatever changed. ### Nothing phones home No telemetry, analytics, crash reports or usage pings. The app makes no third-party requests — even its fonts come from your server. Locked notes are encrypted on disk, and sign-in supports passkeys, authenticator codes and single sign-on. ### Moves in tonight Import a Google Keep Takeout archive or an Obsidian vault, or drag any `.md` file onto the desk. One Docker container, one volume, on amd64 or arm64 — a NAS, a Raspberry Pi or a small VPS. ### Built on Luthor Papyra's editor is [Luthor](/projects/luthor/), Lyfie's open-source rich-text editor. Every improvement to one lands in the other. ### What it does - **Bring your notes.** Drag a file onto your desk and it becomes a note — headings, checklists and all. - **It saves itself.** No save button, ever. Every version is kept, so you can always go back. - **Find anything.** Every word of every note and to-do, in a keystroke — matches highlighted. - **Lock what’s private.** Locked notes are encrypted and open only with your PIN — or your fingerprint. - **Easy on the eyes.** Warm paper by day, soft graphite by night. --- ## Luthor > A TypeScript-first rich-text editor for React, built on Lexical. Source page: https://www.lyfie.org/projects/luthor/ Made by Lyfie (https://www.lyfie.org), the open-source organisation founded by Rahul NS Anand. - Type: library - Status: Stable - Licence: MIT (free and open source) - Website: https://www.luthor.fyi - Documentation: https://www.luthor.fyi/docs/getting-started/ - Source code: https://github.com/lyfie-org/luthor - Highlights: Presets, Headless, Lexical, TypeScript ### Get started ```bash npm install @lyfie/luthor react react-dom ``` Luthor is a rich-text editor ecosystem for teams that want a modern developer experience without editor lock-in. It ships as two packages, so you can start fast and go deep later. ### Two packages, one editor - **`@lyfie/luthor`** — plug-and-play presets with a polished UI, for shipping quickly with almost no setup. - **`@lyfie/luthor-headless`** — the typed extension runtime underneath, for when your product needs full control of every pixel. ### Why it exists Editors are where products quietly lock people in: proprietary formats, paid tiers for basic features, UI you cannot change. Luthor is MIT-licensed, built on Meta's [Lexical](https://lexical.dev), works with React, Next.js, Astro, Vite and Remix, and round-trips Markdown losslessly. ### Proven in production Luthor is the editor inside [Papyra](/projects/papyra/) — its slash commands, tables and embeds all run on it. Lyfie builds on its own tools, so the rough edges get found and fixed here first. ### What it does - **Type / for anything.** Headings, lists, tables and more — one keystroke away. - **Words that look right.** Pick the font, size and spacing that suit your product. - **Colour and highlight.** Mark what matters, without messy formatting underneath. - **Lists that behave.** Bullets, numbers and checklists in one smooth flow. - **Pictures, video, any link.** Drop media in, then resize, align and caption it. - **Light and dark.** At home in either, without fragile hacks. --- ## Frequently asked questions ### Is it really free? Yes. Every Lyfie project is open source — Papyra under GPL-3.0, Luthor under MIT — with no paid tier, no licence key and no account with us. Sponsorship keeps the work going; it never buys features others cannot have. ### Do you track me? No. Our apps collect no telemetry, analytics or crash reports, and this site makes no third-party requests — even the fonts are served from lyfie.org. ### Can I run the apps on my own hardware? Yes, that is the point. Papyra is one Docker container with one volume, on amd64 or arm64 — a NAS, a Raspberry Pi or a small VPS. Luthor is an npm package that runs inside your own app. ### What is Rokada? A private, self-hosted personal finance app, in development now. Like everything Lyfie makes it will run on your own machine, keep your data there and be free. It is not public yet — watch lyfie-org on GitHub to see it the day it is. ### Who makes Lyfie? Lyfie was founded by Rahul NS Anand and is built in the open on GitHub. One person keeps the direction coherent; anyone can shape it with an issue, an idea or a pull request. ### How can I help? Star a repo, report a bug, pick up a good first issue, improve the docs, or sponsor the work. The contribute page has the details. ## Changelog - 2026-10-12 — lyfie.org, refreshed — Luthor and Papyra, side by side - 2026-10-10 — Papyra 0.4.4 — organise shared notes, links that follow shares (https://github.com/lyfie-org/papyra/releases/tag/v0.4.4) - 2026-10-01 — Papyra 0.3.2 — locked notes, encrypted at rest (https://github.com/lyfie-org/papyra/releases/tag/v0.3.2) - 2026-09-29 — Papyra 0.2.0 — live collaboration (https://github.com/lyfie-org/papyra/releases/tag/v0.2.0) - 2026-09-27 — lyfie.org gets a real home page (https://github.com/lyfie-org/lyfie.org) - 2026-09-25 — Luthor 2.9.8 — lossless Markdown for blank lines, literal syntax and code (https://github.com/lyfie-org/luthor/releases/tag/luthor%402.9.8) - 2026-09-25 — Papyra 0.1.11 — multi-select in Archive and Trash (https://github.com/lyfie-org/papyra/releases/tag/v0.1.11) - 2026-09-25 — Papyra imports from Google Keep and Obsidian (https://github.com/lyfie-org/papyra/releases/tag/v0.1.9) - 2026-08-07 — Papyra 0.1.0 — first public release (https://github.com/lyfie-org/papyra/releases/tag/v0.1.0) - 2026-02-17 — Luthor 2.0 — presets and headless split into two packages (https://www.npmjs.com/package/@lyfie/luthor)
